To an observer on Earth, the sky looks like empty space. However, modern science reveals it is a dense, multi-layered shield without which life would be instantly extinguished. This "ceiling" protects us from three fatal cosmic threats:

- Ionizing Radiation: Lethal solar and cosmic rays.
- Freezing Vacuum: The absolute zero of deep space.

- The Nature of Air: Ancients often thought of air as "nothingness" or a spiritual void. The Qur'an treats the sky as a robust, functional structure (Bina' / Saqf) with active protective properties.
- Avoidance of Myth: The Qur'an does not describe the sky as the back of a giant deity (like Nut in Egypt) or a physical iron dome. It uses terms compatible with a functional, protective layer essential for life.
